Colombia’s senate floor is the backdrop for a duel between the former president and the opposition leader. That is good news.

One candidate leads, but polls have been wrong before.

A Nicaraguan journalist in exile writes on the need to support press freedom in his country and beyond.

"It’s a real gallery of authoritarian countries that have lined up in support of Mr. Maduro," said the AS/COA vice president on Morning Edition.

“From here on out, if Maduro is to rule, it will be by fear and oppression, because he has no credibility remaining,” said AS/COA's Eric Farnsworth to Bloomberg. 

The opposition PRD party leads the race in the seven-candidate field ahead of the May 5 vote.
