Music of the Americas: More Live Concerts in New York

Marina Wil sings an Uruguayan classic and Recuerdos brings back music by Gustavo Casenave and DMR.

This week, En Casa features Argentine singer Marina Wil with pianist Jony Camiser in a moving version of Fernando Cabrera's "Te abracé en la noche," while two Recuerdos take back to the opening concert of our 2021–2022 season with Gustavo Casenave and to fall 2020 with a duo by Mexican composer DMR, whose new piece for Yarn/Wire will be premiered live on our stage on Friday.

Marina Wil

Tuesday, November 2, 10 a.m.

Argentine singer, composer, and instrumentalist Marina Wil was born in Buenos Aires in 1986. She has studied voice, piano, bass, and drums, as well as music production and social sciences. She leads a varied career that explores the role of the voice in groups performing ventures into jazz, classical music, and pop. Wil's first album, Del cielo, was released in 2014, and she is preparing a new solo release of her original songs, produced in collaboration with leading Argentine artists. In 2018, she recorded a version of "Un osito de peluche de Taiwan" by Los Auténticos Decadentes and joined the band in concerts in Buenos Aires and Mexico. She has performed in Argentina, Europe, and the US, as singer, drummer, and keyboardist.

From home in Buenos Aires, with keyboardist Jony Camiser, Wil sent us this version of Fernando Cabrera's "Te abracé en la noche."

Gustavo Casenave

Wednesday, November 3, 10 a.m.

Back in October, Uruguayan pianist Gustavo Casenave reopened our physical stage with a solo recital.

"Three points of view" was the first piece of live music to sound in our hall in a year and a half and a beautiful way to reconnect with the thrill of live music.

DMR: Studies for violin and cello

Thursday, November 4, 10 a.m.

This Friday, Yarn/Wire premieres a new work by Mexican composer DMR, so this Recuerdos video takes us back to the last time her music was featured in our series: counter)induction's concert in fall 2020 highlighting the widely diverse world of contemporary music by Latin American female composers.

Miranda Cuckson and Caleb van der Swaagh play DMR's "Studies for violin and cello." Watch the full concert with interviews of the composers by c)i's Kyle Bartlett and musicologist Edgardo Salinas.

Yarn/Wire

Friday, November 5, 7 p.m.

The new music percussion/piano quartet Yarn/Wire returns to our stage with guest Jeff Gavett with premieres by Taylor Brook and DMR alongside Como hilos de viento y luz Andrés Guadarrama's quartet written for Yarn/Wire earlier this year. If you are in New York, you can join us live, but if not, the video of this concert will be available on November 19.
