Approval Tracker: Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum

By Chase Harrison

How do Mexicans view their first presidenta and her government’s handling of major issues?

This article was originally published on January 28, 2025, and has since been updated.

Throughout her presidency, Claudia Sheinbaum has ranked as one of Latin America’s most popular leaders, commanding approval ratings near or above 70 percent since her October 1, 2024 inauguration.

Her popularity is just one factor bolstering her strong mandate. With the ruling Morena party commanding large majorities in Congress that allow for extensive reforms, Sheinbaum is building on the legacy of her predecessor and political mentor, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to carry out what their political movement has dubbed the Fourth Transformation of Mexico. A key area where Sheinbaum has continued in López Obrador’s path is social programs, which rank as her government’s most popular measure. Many supporters view these programs as helping to lift 8.3 million Mexicans out of poverty from 2022 to 2024. In the first half of 2025, Mexico’s GDP grew by 1.8 percent, higher than projected.

But a complex relationship with the United States, Mexico’s neighbor and largest trade partner, under the Trump administration is just one challenge Sheinbaum must navigate. Looking across the issues, Mexicans express dissatisfaction with her government’s handling of corruption and organized crime.

Now in her second year in office, how do Mexicans view their leader? AS/COA Online reviews the polling.
