AS/COA, in partnership with BlackRock, is pleased to present the Argentina Investment Conference 2016, featuring a keynote address by Alfonso Prat-Gay, Minister of Finance of Argentina.

Since taking office last December, the administration of President Mauricio Macri has moved rapidly to normalize relations with the world. A series of major fiscal, political, and regulatory policy measures have also been implemented to encourage investment and economic growth.

What are the most promising opportunities and key considerations for businesses looking to establish or expand their operations in Argentina? What are the growth prospects of Argentina’s main sectors and what are the recent policies and measures in place to attract foreign investment?

Amer Bisat

Senior EM Portfolio Manager, BlackRock

Amer Bisat is a senior emerging markets portfolio manager within BlackRock's Americas Fixed Income Group. In this capacity, he works closely with the various portfolio managers in the group, formulating and implementing investable emerging markets themes in local markets, FX, and sovereign and corporate credit spaces. Bisat's service with the firm dates back to 2013. Prior to BlackRock, he was a partner in two macro hedge funds (Traxis and Rubicon), and held portfolio management responsibilities at UBS and Morgan Stanley Investment Management.

Cofounder and CEO, Adecoagro

Mariano Bosch cofounded Adecoagro in 2002 and since then has been the chief executive officer and a member of the company’s board of directors. Adecoagro is one of the leading companies in the production of food and renewable energy in South America. Present in Argentina, Brazil, and Uruguay, its main activities include the production of grains, rice, dairy products, sugar, ethanol, energy and land transformation. Adecoagro is listed in NYSE by AGRO, with a market capitalization over $1.3 billion.

Laurence D. Fink is founder, chairman and CEO of BlackRock, Inc. He also leads the firm’s Global Executive Committee. He obtained a degree in economics from the Universidad Nacional de Buenos Aires. Ilac has a master’s degree in finance from Universidad Torcauto di Tella and an MBA from Yale University.

Anthony Lim is president of the Americas for GIC. Based in New York, he covers North, Central and South America. He joined GIC as its president of the London office in 1998. Prior to joining the firm, he was a senior managing director at Bankers Trust Company, where he held various management and trading positions in the global markets division in Singapore and London from 1987 to 1998. Before Bankers Trust, Lim was with the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), where he spent three years in their New York Office.

CEO, Latin America and Canada, J.P. Morgan Chase & Co

Martin Marron is J.P. Morgan’s chief executive officer for Latin America and Canada, responsible for overseeing all of J.P. Morgan's activities in the region. He is also the head of Banking for Latin America. Marron has over 30 years of experience in the financial markets, joined J.P. Morgan in 1992 and throughout his career has held several sales, trading, and banking positions in Argentina, Brazil, and New York. Before joining J.P. Morgan, Marron worked at Price Waterhouse as an external auditor, and at Credit Lyonnais and Citibank NA as a trader.

Jeffrey McElfresh is the current president of DIRECTV Latin America, AT&T Services, Inc. He leads the DIRECTV Latin America operation encompassing activities in all the major territories in the Latin America and Caribbean region. The company’s largest operations are in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, and Venezuela. Prior to his current role, McElfresh was responsible for coordinating and overseeing the corporate-wide development of the merger integration with DIRECTV.

Managing Director and Director of Pampa Energy Inc.

Marcelo Mindlin is managing director and director of Pampa Energy Inc. From 1989, Mindlin has been the founding partner and chairman of "Grupo EMES" (formerly Grupo Dolphin S.A.), one of the largest private equity and institutional investors in Argentina. Grupo EMES is the controlling shareholder of Pampa Energía S.A. and of Grupo Orígenes. From June 2006 to 2013, he acted as president and chairman of the board of directors of the company. Since 1989, he has been founding shareholder and senior portfolio manager of Grupo Dolphin S.A.

Thomas O’Flynn has served as executive vice president and CFO of AES since September of 2012. Previously, O’Flynn served as senior advisor to the Private Equity Group of Blackstone, an investment and advisory group and held this position from 2010 to 2012. During this period, O’Flynn also served as chief operating officer and chief financial officer of Transmission Developers, Inc. (TDI), a Blackstone-controlled company that develops innovative power transmission projects in an environmentally responsible manner.

Alfonso Prat-Gay is the minister of finance of Argentina. He was national deputy for the City of Buenos Aires from 2009 to 2013 and president of the Deputy Block of the Ari Civic Coalition. Prat-Gay also served as vice president of the Financial Commission of the Chamber of Deputies of Argentina from 2012 to 2013 and also as president of the Chamber from 2011 to 2012. He also held different roles in the private sector such as president of the Central Bank of Argentina between 2002 and 2004 and as head of currency research in JPMorgan London.

John Paul Rathbone is the Latin America editor at the Financial Times, and author of the New York Times-bestseller The Sugar King of Havana: The Rise and Fall of Julio Lobo, Cuba's Last Tycoon (Penguin Press, 2010). Until 2005, he served as managing director of Deutsche Bank, where he served as global head of emerging markets strategy. Sekiguchi worked at J.P. Morgan, from 1996 to 2001, where he was the head of strategy for Latin America.

Susan Segal was elected president and CEO of the Americas Society and Council of the Americas in August 2003 after working in the private sector with Latin America and other emerging markets for over 30 years. A passionate supporter of Latin America, she joined the organizations to implement a new strategic plan to renew and return the Society and Council to their historic position. Prior to her current position, she was a founding partner of her own investment and advisory group focused primarily on Latin America and the U.S. Hispanic sector.
