Gabriel Szpigiel

Partner and Senior Portfolio Manager, Marathon Asset Management

Gabriel Szpigiel is partner and senior portfolio manager for Marathon’s emerging market credit strategy. Szpigiel, a member of Marathon's Executive Committee, is responsible for asset management of sovereign and corporate credit, local markets, and equities (including distressed debt and special situations) across Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. With more than twenty years of experience in emerging markets, Szpigiel contributes to the firm's solid investing and trading skills and key relationships. In 2003, he joined Marathon from Deutsche Bank, where he worked for six years as a managing director, first in London responsible for Eastern Europe trading, and then head of Global Fixed Income Latin American Trading based in New York. During his Wall Street tenure, Szpigiel also worked as a senior trader at Chase Manhattan Bank, ING, and Smith Barney. He also served as vice chairman of the Emerging Markets Trade Association. Szpigiel is board member of the nonprofit organization Women Across Frontiers. Szpigiel earned his master's degree in economics from the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina.
