"It could bring Venezuela to its knees," AS/COA's Eric Farnsworth told BuzzFeed News, commenting on potential future sanctions.

"The [Venezuelan] opposition is going to try to set up a parallel government in a bid for international recognition. Maduro will likely overreact by tossing the leaders in jail," said AS/COA's Eric Farnsworth. 

AS/COA's Eric Farnsworth argued that the July 30 constituent assembly vote would "give the government the opportunity to turn Venezuela into a one-party state without any of the trappings of democracy."
