En Casa: Pepo Herrera and Marita Rodríguez

Tuesday, April 18, 10 am

The duo of Cuban musicians Pepo Herrera and Marita Rodríguez is back with a second video of music by Argentine composer Carlos Guastavino, "Tonada y cueca," written in 1965, and his first work with the instrument. Most of Gustavino's music is for singers, and he felt great affinity for the human voice (he wrote about 600 songs), and it took the urging of the internationally renowned Argentine clarinetist and luthier Luis Rossi for the composer to be convinced that the instrument could sing as beautifully as a human voice.

En Casa: Las Hermanas Abraham

Wednesday, April 19, 10 am

Las Hermanas Abraham is a folk music group established in the Valle de Uco, in the Argentine province of Mendoza, by Betiana and Marianela Abraham, who have been performing and composing folk music for over 20 years. They perform extensively throughout Argentina and have been nominated for a Premio Gardel.

From Mendoza, the sisters—joined by Martín Parra, Alfredo Musri, Javier Ledda, Laureano Busse, Pablo González, and Diego Sierra—sent us "Abrazame cantando," a song by Betiana and Marianela that is a way to express the authors' love and gratitude to those who are far away.
