Colombians head to the polls on May 31 in a highly polarized race to succeed President Gustavo Petro. Will the country follow the rightward shift reshaping politics throughout much of today’s Latin America—or will its political left hold onto the Casa de Nariño for a second consecutive term? The outcome carries dramatically different implications for Colombia’s economy, security, relationship with the Donald Trump administration, regional alliances, and more.
Join Americas Society on April 30 to hear from experts who will provide a broad overview of Colombia’s current challenges and potential scenarios. The panel will feature longtime Colombian official José Antonio Ocampo, who served, among other posts, as the country's minister of finance and public credit (1996–1997, 2022–2023) and as a member of its Central Bank Board of Directors.
