Juan Esteban Orduz
Columnist, El País; former Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Colombia in the U.S. (1998–2002) and core team member for design and implementation of Plan Colombia
Juan Esteban Orduz is a seasoned global leader, board member, and executive with over two decades of experience across Latin America, the United States, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Multilingual and multicultural, he served as President of the Colombian Coffee Federation, Inc. (New York)—the North American subsidiary of the Federación Nacional de Cafeteros de Colombia, the leading Colombian coffee strategy and positioning in North America and globally (2003–2023). Earlier, as Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Colombia in Washington, D.C. (1998–2002), he played a leadership role in conceiving and implementing Plan Colombia. In 2024, he founded Archeterra Global, advising on development and impact investment. He chairs the World Coffee Producers Forum, is a columnist for El País, and serves on boards including Rainforest Alliance, Universidad de los Andes Foundation, American Friends of Fundación Cardioinfantil (founder), and the Stimson Center – LatAm Program. Beyond business, he is a committed social leader. Recently, through the World Coffee Producers Forum, he has worked with Jeffrey Sachs and institutions such as Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment, UN’s Sustainable Development Solutions Network, and University of Oxford to advance SDG-based coffee plans globally that promote farmer prosperity.
He holds a law degree (JD equivalent) from the Universidad del Rosario, a finance specialization from Universidad de los Andes, and was an invited fellow at Harvard University Weatherhead Center for International Affairs.
