How Latinos Voted in the 2026 U.S. Midterm Elections

By Chase Harrison

Democrats regained ground in this bloc, powering them to victories in key Senate and House races.

President Donald Trump’s record levels of support among Latino voters in 2024 appeared to have collapsed as the group saw a double-digit swing toward the Democrats in 2026 midterm elections. That helped the party take control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, as well as governor's seats in states like Texas, Georgia, and Nevada.

What caused the shift? In exit polls, Latino voters, who number around 39 million, reported frustration with the economy, the condition of democracy, and the intensity of immigration enforcement. A majority said that Trump’s performance as president was a factor in their vote.

Some 4 million Latinos were eligible to vote for the first time in this election with polling indicating that these new voters overwhelmingly backed the Democrats.

AS/COA Online looks at top exit polling to understand how Latinos approached their midterm ballots, breaking it down by demographics and geography.
