"Panama is one of the fastest-growing countries in the region, registering last year a 10 percent increase in our gross domestic product" said Panamanian President Laurentino Cortizo to open the 53rd Annual Washington Conference on the Americas at the Organization of American States.

The president discussed how the country remains a leader in connectivity, citing that the Panama Canal links more than 180 maritime routes and 1,920 ports. "Panama's experience shows that democracy—a core pillar of our country—works when it is focused on the benefits of all," Cortizo concluded.
