Music of the Americas: Chile

Wednesday, February 25, 10 am

Camila and Silvio is a Chilean duo formed by Silvio Rozzi and Camila Soria. Their music is rooted in South American folklore, offering a contemporary interpretation of traditional genres from the Andean region. In 2019, they released their first album, En el borde de la noche, for which they were awarded Best Folk Music Artist at the 2020 Pulsar Awards, the most important recognition in the Chilean music industry. In 2023, they released Piedra Azul, which blends traditional Andean folklore and contemporary music, creating a bridge between traditional roots music and new generations. They have performed on various national stages and, since 2022, have performed in South Korea, England, Spain, and Latin America. 

From Santiago, they sent us videos of songs included in Piedra Azul, an album that honors water and its journey through the world and through all life forms. Today, we share "Neblina."

Thursday, February 26, 10 am

Singer, folk poet, guitarist, guitarrón player, and accordionist Dangelo Guerra, originally from Santiago, is now based in Putú, about 200 miles south of the capital in the Maule Region. In his 30-year career, he has performed throughout Chile, as well as in Latin America and Europe. He has released two albums as a solo artist: Del canto hago mi vida (2013) and Por la senda de cantores (2017). 

He sent us "Con recoveco," an original cueca performed on voice and accordion. 

Friday, February 27, 10 am

Pájaros Kiltros, led by singer Millaray Parra, is inspired by the nature, people, and landscapes of the Chiloé Archipelago in the Chilean Patagonia. Their music incorporates elements of world music, folk, progressive rock, and jazz. With three albums released to date, they have performed on important stages in Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, and China. 

They sent us two songs. Today, we share "Mancuspia."
