Epsy Campbell Barr

H.E. Epsy Campbell Barr is the vice president of Costa Rica, the first Afro-descendant woman to hold this position in the Americas. In her role as vice president, Campbell heads the Northern Zone Development Program, which promotes human development in the Huetar Norte region of Costa Rica. She also directs the National Plan for Women’s Economic Empowerment and Leadership, whose goal is to reduce gender gaps and create better opportunities for women. Previously, she served for two terms in congress and as minister of foreign relations.

He moved to Roraima in 1982, where he developed his career. For over 25 years he worked as a coroner at the Instituto Médico Legal (IML) of Roraima, while also working as an ophthalmologist, becoming a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

José Checin

José Cechin is executive superintendent of the Institute for Supplementary Health Studies (IESS). He was minister of social security in the Fernando Henrique Cardoso administration and executive director of the National Supplementary Health Federation (FenaSaúde). He is an electronic engineer from the Technological Institute of Aeronautics (ITA), has a master's degree in electrical engineering and economics from Unicamp, and a master's degree in economics from the University of Cambridge.
