Video: U.S. Senator Bob Menendez on Economic Partnership in the Americas

At an event hosted by Americas Society/Council of the Americas in Mexico City, U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) announced an initiative to boost economic engagement in the Americas. “We must seize this moment and together embark upon a long-term plan for combined economic growth that allows for all of our citizens to share in the prosperity of an expanding hemispheric economy,” said the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, adding that new policies can “build a foundation for robust economic integration making the Western Hemisphere an economic powerhouse in the 21st century.”

The senator outlined four areas for this plan: establishing high-level leadership and coordination, promoting “brand USA,” pursuing infrastructure projects, and providing targeted equity investment and increased export finance funding.
