Geles Cabrera: Museo Escultórico

By Luisa Leme and Jennifer Vilcarino

Take a closer look at the Americas Society exhibition that explored the work of one of Mexico's most prominent female sculptors.

Geles Cabrera: Museo Escultórico showcased the work of Mexican sculptor Geles Cabrera over the last 40 years. In this video, we hear from the Visual Arts team at Americas Society who produced the exhibition.

"She has not received as much institutional recognition as some of her peers," said Rachel Remick, assistant curator at Americas Society, as at the time, sculpture was a male-dominated art. In spite of this, Geles Cabrera founded a museum in Mexico City to display her work, which primarily focuses on the human figure. This exhibition at Americas Society, her first solo exhibition in the United States, opened on June 8 and recreates elements of Cabrera's museum.

The exhibition was on display from June 8 to July 30, 2022. View gallery and visitors information.

This exhibition was curated by Aimé Iglesias Lukin, Tie Jojima, and Rachel Remick.
