  • Jorge Becerra, Emeritus Senior Partner & Senior Advisor, BCG
  • Susan Segal, President and CEO, AS/COA

Pierpaolo Barbieri, founder and CEO of Ualá, believes financial inclusion is what can bring Latin America forward. In the one-on-one conversation, he shared how Ualá is working to democratize the financial services industry in the region by providing credit access to people from all socioeconomic backgrounds and education levels.

The roots of Ualá trace back to Barbieri’s upbringing in Argentina during the financial crisis of 2001. After a decade in the United States, Barbieri, a Harvard-educated historian, had the idea of using technology to fix a key problem of democracies in Latin America: financial access. “You can’t ask people to believe in democracy and capitalism if you keep them outside of the system,” he said.

The conversation is moderated by Jorge Becerra, emeritus senior partner and senior advisor at BCG, and was recorded during a private lunch at the 27th COA Symposium and BRAVO Business Awards held in Miami October 28, 2022.
