In collaboration with The Hispanic Society, Music of the Americas will offer three concerts during the 2019- 2020 Concert Series, preceded by a half-hour lecture, devoted to exploring parallelisms and differences in the treatment of ideas of music theory, the natural world, and human tribulations in baroque Spanish and American music. These concerts offer the public a richly-textured overview of Spanish music and its projection into the New World, while highlighting a valuable part of New York City’s diverse cultural patrimony.

The first concert, Selva Musical, will feature Americas Society’s ensemble Meridionalis, and Momenta Quartet performing music by Palestrina, Valderrábano, and “musical enigmas” by Cerone, among other jewels from the Hispanic Society music collection. Sebastián Zubieta will conduct and speak about the music and sources.
