Ambassador (ret.) Kevin K. Sullivan is vice president of the Americas Society/Council of the Americas and head of the AS/COA Washington office. He has extensive experience in U.S. foreign policy and hemispheric affairs, along with deep knowledge of Washington and longstanding relationships with senior policymakers, legislators, thought leaders, and private-sector executives. Sullivan most recently served as deputy assistant secretary for South America at the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs, where he played a pivotal part in developing initiatives to deepen integration in the region. He served as U.S. ambassador to Nicaragua from 2018 to 2023, in addition to numerous diplomatic posts in and beyond the Americas.
At AS/COA, he oversees the design and execution of signature programming, including the Washington Conference on the Americas, the Council of the America’s prestigious annual hallmark event in the U.S. capital, as well as other strategic initiatives in areas like energy and trade. Sullivan has been the recipient of several honors and awards, including the Secretary of State’s Distinguished Service Award, the Presidential Rank Award, and France’s Legion of Honor. He is a graduate of Georgetown University’s College of Arts and Sciences and holds a master's degree from Princeton University’s School of Public and International Affairs. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, he is fluent in Spanish.
