Visual Arts Department Presents: Behind-the-Scenes Experiences with Contemporary Latin American Artists

This exclusive members-only studio visits offer the opportunity to learn about the work of three outstanding artists from Chile, Colombia, and Uruguay based in New York.

This new and exclusive members-only series of studio visits offers Americas Society members the opportunity to learn about the work of three outstanding New York-based artists from Chile, Colombia, and Uruguay. With their most recent pieces displayed in an intimate setting, members will have access to a behind-the-scenes experience with Cristobal Lehyt, Luis Roldan, and Marta Chilindron through an informal conversation about their creative process and trajectory. These events will be followed by small receptions.

Private Viewing and Conversation with Cristobal Lehyt
Tuesday, April 23 - 6:00pm

Join us for a gallery talk with Chilean-born, New York-based artist Cristobal Lehyt as he presents his most recent work. Through his Drama Projection series, Lehyt examines identity and self-consciousness, figuration, and dramatic narrative using drawings, sculpture, and site specific installations. He has exhibited widely in Asia, Europe, and the United States.

Private Viewing and Conversation with Luis Roldan
Tuesday, May 14 - 6:00pm

Colombian, New York-based artist Luis Roldan will share insights about his latest drawings and sculptures informed by the concepts of deconstructivism, memory, and objets trouvés (found objects). Roldán has represented Colombia in the 53rd Venice Bienal in 2009, and his work has been collected by Fundación/Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, The Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center, Vassar College, and the Drawing Collection of the Deutsche Bank, New York among others.

Private Viewing and Conversation with Marta Chilindron
Thursday, June 6, 2013 - 6:00pm

Meet Argentine-born, Uruguayan-raised New York resident Marta Chilindron. Interested in the interaction between sculpture and design, Chilindron explores the perception of space and the changing nature of shapes though her tridimensional objects. She has currently an individual exhibition at MoLAA-Long Beach, and has extensively exhibited in Europe and the Middle East.
