Government of Colombia Awards AS/COA's Susan Segal the Order of Boyacá

"I am honored to receive this award on behalf of AS/COA for our continued work and commitment to Colombia," said the president and CEO.

New York, NY, April 12, 2022—Colombian President Iván Duque awarded Americas Society/Council of the Americas (AS/COA) President and CEO Susan Segal the Order of Boyacá in the category of Grand Cross in recognition of her support and contributions to Colombia and Latin America. The ceremony took place at the AS/COA headquarters in New York.

“This award is the legacy of the liberator Simón Bolívar to recognize the efforts of the heroes in the liberation campaign of 1819,” said the Colombian president. “We are honored to give Susan Segal this distinction for her contribution to our country; her support and valuable contributions have strengthened Colombia's leading role in Latin America because she has highlighted our nation as a focus for investment and a central axis for regional integration.”

The Order of Boyacá is one of the most prestigious honors awarded by the Colombian government. It is presented to Colombians and foreign citizens of friendly nations with special merit.

Upon receiving the award, Segal said: “I am honored to receive this award on behalf of the Americas Society/Council of the Americas for our continued work and commitment to Colombia. Together, in the spirit of this award, we can move forward and further promote democracy and development in the country.”

Before assuming her role as president and CEO of AS/COA in 2003, Segal was a partner and Latin American Group head at J.P. Morgan Partners/Chase Capital Partners (CCP), where she pioneered early-stage venture capital investing in Latin America. Through its various public and private activities, AS/COA has highlighted the many opportunities for investment and trade in Colombia.

The Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa is a previous recipient of the Order of Boyacá in the category of Grand Cross (2019).

Segal has also received the Orden Bernardo O'Higgins, Grado de Gran Oficial in Chile; the Orden de San Carlos in Colombia; and the Orden Mexicana del Águila Azteca. In 2013, the North American-Chilean Chamber of Commerce recognized her as the Honorary Chilean of the Year; in 2018, Segal was awarded Peru’s Order of Merit for Distinguished Services in the rank of Grand Official.
