This fact sheet illustrates how Canada, Chile, Mexico, and Peru—the other four countries in the Western Hemisphere besides the United States that are signatories to the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP)—are bedrock trade partners of the United States and how countries of North America, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean are key export destinations from and sources of foreign direct investment into the United States, which creates and supports American jobs. The Trade Advisory Group believes that TPP provides a path forward for other countries in the hemisphere to join over time, incentivizing a race to the top and building momentum toward a U.S.-led regional agreement which will deepen strategic relations with allies and friends.
