Cultured Mag Adds AS Exhibition to its List of Recommended NYC September Shows

The publication says that the Americas Society exhibit "makes an utterly compelling case for the telenovela as a stealth medium for social critique."

This exhibition of 52 contemporary artworks makes an utterly compelling case for the telenovela as a stealth medium for social critique while also, perhaps less deliberately, offering an ode to the lost phenomenon of synchronized viewership—I was hooked the same way I was as a kid watching telenovelas with my grandmother, and left the show clutching my nostalgia, a comprehensive “reader” published to accompany the exhibition, and a sultry maroon “Telenovela” baseball cap as a souvenir.
