Statement from Susan Segal, president and CEO of AS/COA, released by email Friday, March 13.

Dear Members and Friends,

We wish to inform you that, consistent with many organizations, we will be working remotely through Easter. Only a skeletal staff will remain in our offices. This is to ensure the health and safety of our team, members, guests, speakers, and constituents.

Our goal is to continue to provide seamless activities through our WebEx platform. We expect to host two to five meetings a week, which will generally be private and off the record, like our physical programming. We also hope to arrange panels that will be open to the public. In certain cases, we are considering organizing very small in-person roundtables.

We have also decided to postpone several large upcoming events:

  1. The reception for the new ambassador to the United States from Argentina
  2. The Washington Conference on the Americas (we will forward you a new date shortly)
  3. There is a high probability that other large events between now and June may be rescheduled. We will inform you once a final decision has been taken.

During this period, we will also be closing the Visual Arts Gallery, as well as postponing our cultural activities.

We believe the second half of the year will be extremely busy and intend to offer a full menu of events, including our Latin American Cities Conferences, roundtables, and delegations. This would also include the CFO Roundtables and all our scheduled overseas working groups. Our entire team will be available, as if we were in the office, by phone, WhatsApp, messaging, and email. Please reach out and stay engaged. We will also be reaching out to many of you. If you have suggestions for WebEx programs or any other ideas, please let us know.

Additionally, please remember to check out our website as-coa.org as well as Americas Quarterly’s website americasquarterly.org for up-to-date information and interesting articles/commentaries.

We remain committed to all our members and look forward to working with you in these very challenging times. Thank you so much for your patience and continued support. All of us at the Americas Society/Council of the Americas hope you and your families stay well and safe.

Warm Personal Regards,

Susan and the entire AS/COA team
