AS/COA Announces Kevin K. Sullivan as Vice President of Its Washington Office

Ambassador Sullivan brings relationships and experience in Washington to further the organization's goals of economic integration across the Americas.

Washington, DC, September 17, 2025 — Americas Society/Council of the Americas (AS/COA) is pleased to announce that Ambassador Kevin K. Sullivan will take the helm as the vice president of its Washington office.

Sullivan brings a deep knowledge of Washington and his longstanding relationships with senior policymakers, legislators, thought leaders, and private-sector executives to AS/COA. His insights and network in the United States, as well as his knowledge and experience in Latin America, will be instrumental in shaping policy dialogue and forging impactful partnerships.

Sullivan most recently served as deputy assistant secretary for South America at the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs, where he played a pivotal part in developing initiatives to deepen integration in the region.

“We are thrilled to welcome Kevin Sullivan,” said Susan Segal, president and CEO of AS/COA. “Kevin’s depth of experience in Washington, as well as his trusted relationships across sectors, will be vital to expanding our impact at this critical time for the hemisphere.”

"I am excited to join the outstanding leadership team of AS/COA," said Sullivan. "The strategic insights, relationships, and values that the organization fosters are more relevant now than ever. I have worked for many years to strengthen political and economic ties within our region, and I look forward to leveraging that experience to help our members successfully navigate today's policy environment and seize the enormous opportunities that exist in the Americas."

Sullivan will also oversee the design and execution of signature programming, including the Washington Conference on the Americas, the Council of the America’s prestigious annual hallmark event in the U.S. capital, in addition to other strategic initiatives in areas like energy and trade.

Sullivan, who served as U.S. ambassador to Nicaragua from 2018 to 2023, in addition to numerous posts in and beyond the Americas, has been the recipient of several honors and awards, including the Secretary of State’s Distinguished Service Award, the Presidential Rank Award, and France’s Legion of Honor.
