The exhibition's curatorial advisor, Keyna Eleison, explains the show's name and her approach to representing the immense, diverse region.
“It’s why it’s Açu. It’s larger than what we see. It’s larger than what we can hold. It’s larger than what we can imagine,” says Keyna Eleison, chief curatorial advisor of Amazonia Açu at Americas Society, an exhibition that provides a kaleidoscopic overview of the aesthetic, cultural, and material diversity found in the Amazon. Eleison was invited to lead a committee of nine curators, who representing all the countries with territory in the Amazon territory: Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela.
