#2023WCA: Ambassador Katherine Tai on Supply Chain Resilience and Trade Ties

U.S. Trade Representative Tai emphasizes the importance of supply chain resilience and inclusion in trade relations.

Speaker

  • Ambassador Katherine Tai, U.S. Trade Representative
  • Eric Farnsworth, Vice President, Council of the Americas

Ambassador Katherine Tai, in conversation with COA's Eric Farnsworth at the 53rd annual Washington Conference on the Americas at the OAS, discussed geographic importance. "So much of our reality, so much of what defines our opportunity is still about geography," she said. "So I think that that is a foundational touchstone for thinking about the U.S. approach to international economic engagement with the Western Hemisphere."

The U.S. trade representative discussed the importance of resiliency and inclusion in terms of supply chains and trade relations. "The challenges are many here, but it is really important for us in the international economic conversation to be engaging and to be knitting up our regulators and our policymakers and legislators at home, so that we can all be having that conversation around where each of us judges the appropriate regulatory framework is going to be for the digital components of our economy."
