Sebastián Fernandez Silva serves as chief people officer for Mercado Libre (MELI), the leading Latin American online commerce and fintech company. He joined the company in 2004 and started-up the People department. He leads the human capital management for the 18 countries where the company operates with a headcount of more than 13,500 employees. Great Place to Work recognized MELI as one of the TOP 3 companies in Latin America and among the best 25 around the world. MELI was also awarded the "Better for People” distinction for its innovative practices in Culture Development. In 2019, Silva received the distinction of CHRO of the year, granted by CEMA University, Apertura Magazine and El Cronista newspaper. Previously, he performed different HR roles in the airline, consumer products, and professional service industries.He holds an honors degree in Psychology from the University of Buenos Aires and a Master’s degree in Human Resources Management from Universidad de San Andres, Argentina. He completed his studies at the Michigan and Stanford Business Schools. Silva is also a member of the Global Advisory Boards of SuccessFactors and Gartner.
