Rodrigo Vergara

Governor of the Central Bank of Chile

Rodrigo Vergara has been the governor of the Central Bank of Chile since December 2011 and was appointed as a member of the Board of the Central Bank of Chile in December 2009 for a ten-year term. Before his position at the Central Bank, he was a professor of economics at the Catholic University of Chile, worked as an economic consultant, and sat on the board of several companies. In 1995, Vergara became the coordinator of the Macroeconomics Department at the Center for Public Studies, an independent Chilean think tank. Previously, he worked at the Central Bank of Chile from 1985 to 1995, rising to the position of chief economist in 1992. Throughout his career, Vergara has been an economic advisor to the central banks and governments of several countries in Latin America, Eastern Europe, Asia, and Africa, and has been an external consultant for the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the United Nations. He graduated with a degree in economics from the Universidad Católica de Chile and holds a PhD. in economics from Harvard University.

Rodrigo Vergara es gobernador del Banco Central de Chile desde el 2011 y fue designado como miembro de la junta directiva del mismo en Diciembre del 2009 por un periodo de diez años. Previamente se desempeñó como profesor de economía en la Universidad Católica de Chile, trabajó como consultor económico y formó parte de variadas juntas directivas. Vergara fue coordinador del Departamento de Macroeconomía en el Centro de Estudios Públicos, un think tank independiente de Chile. Trabajó para el Banco Central de Chile desde 1985 al 1995 convirtiéndose en economista jefe en el año 1992. Durante su carrera, Vergara ha sostenido roles como consejero económico para bancos centrales y para distintos gobiernos de América Latina, Europa Occidental, Asia y África, y como consultor externo para el Banco Mundial, el Fondo Monetario Internacional, el Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo y las Naciones Unidas. Se graduó con una licenciatura en economía de la Universidad Católica de Chile y tiene un PhD de la Universidad de Harvard.
