Otaviano Canuto

Former Vice President and Executive Director, World Bank

Otaviano Canuto is a senior fellow at the Policy Center for the New South, a nonresident senior fellow at Brookings Institution, and a principal at the Center for Macroeconomics and Development. Previously, he was a vice president and executive director at the World Bank, the executive director at the International Monetary Fund, and a vice-president at the Inter-American Development Bank. Canuto also served as the former deputy minister for international affairs in Brazil’s Ministry of Finance. He has worked as a professor of economics at both the University of São Paulo and the University of Campinas. Canuto completed his undergraduate studies at the Federal University of Sergipe. He received an M.A. in economics at Concordia University and a PhD in economics at the University of Campinas.
