Lina Ornelas

Head of Public Policy and Government Affairs for Mexico, Central America and The Caribbean, Google

Lina Ornelas is the director of Public Policy and Government Affairs for Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean at Google. Of the twelve years she spent in the public sector in Mexico and Europe, she spent nine at Instituto Federal de Acceso a la Información y Protección de Datos working as the general director of Classification and Personal Data and later as the general director of Self-Regulation. Ornelas has been the coordinator of working groups within the Red Iberoamericana de Protección de Datos Personales, sits on the editorial board of the Future of Privacy Forum with other experts on Internet privacy, is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals, and is on the advisory board of the Mexico Institute at the Wilson Center. As an associate professor at the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas, A.C., she researched topics related to law and new technologies. Ornelas earned her law degree from la Universidad de Guadalajara and her master’s degree in legal cooperation from the Université Libre in Brussels. 

Lina Ornelas es directora de Políticas Publicas y Relaciones con Gobierno para México, Centro América y El Caribe en Google. Se desempeñó durante doce años en el sector público en México y Europa, de los cuales, nueve trabajó en el Instituto Federal de Acceso a la Información y Protección de Datos como directora general de Clasificación y Datos Personales y posteriormente como directora general de Autorregulación. Fue coordinadora de subgrupos de trabajo en la Red Iberoamericana de Protección de Datos Personales; es miembro del Consejo Editorial del “Future of Privacy Forum” junto con expertos en privacidad en Internet, así como miembro de la Asociación Internacional de Profesionales de Privacidad. Forma parte del consejo asesor del Instituto de México en la Fundación Woodrow Wilson en Washington DC. Realizó una estancia como profesora asociada en el Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas, A.C. donde investigó temas relacionados con derecho y nuevas tecnologías. Es egresada de la Facultad de Derecho de la Universidad de Guadalajara y cuenta con una maestría en cooperación legal internacional por la Universidad Libre de Bruselas.
