Kevin Whitaker

U.S. Ambassador to Colombia

Kevin Whitaker is the United States ambassador to Colombia. A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, he was previously deputy assistant secretary of state for South America in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs. Whitaker has served in the United Kingdom, Jamaica, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, where he was deputy chief of mission from 2005 to 2007. In addition, he previously served in a number of positions at the Department of State, including as coordinator of the Office of Cuban Affairs from 2002 to 2005, deputy executive secretary from 2007 to 2008, and director of the office of Andean affairs from 2008 to 2011. In 2005, Whitaker won the Secretary’s Award for Public Affairs and Public Diplomacy. A native of Virginia, he received his degree in history from the University of Virginia.

Kevin Whitaker es el embajador de Estados Unidos en Colombia. Previamente fue subsecretario de Estado para América del Sur en la Oficina de Asuntos del Hemisferio Occidental. Whitaker ha prestado servicio en el Reino Unido, Jamaica, Honduras, Nicaragua y Venezuela, donde fue jefe adjunto de la misión desde 2005 a 2007. Además, se desempeñó en distintos cargos del Departamento de Estado, incluso como coordinador de la Oficina de Asuntos Cubanos de 2002 a 2005, subsecretario ejecutivo de 2007 a 2008, y director de la oficina de Asuntos Andinos desde 2008 a 2011. En 2005, Whitaker obtuvo el Premio del Secretario de Asuntos Públicos y Diplomacia Pública. Es licenciado en historia de la Universidad de Virginia.
