Jorge Luis Montero is an economist and politician, currently serving as Minister of Energy and Mines since November 30, 2024. He previously served as Vice Minister of Mines (2020–2021), where he helped design Peru’s National Policy for Small-Scale and Artisanal Mining. In the private sector, he held leadership roles at Gold Fields’ Cerro Corona operation and Hochschild Mining’s Sumac Tarpuy Association.

He holds a degree in Economics from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, along with a Master’s in BIM Management from Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas and diplomas in Human Rights and Public Policy.
