"We want to create a society of opportunities," said Chile's President Sebastián Piñera during September 22 remarks. The president noted that Chile is on track to rank second in Latin America and first among OECD countries in terms of economic growth.

Americas Society and Council of the Americas hosted private and public programming during United Nations General Assembly week with the presidents of Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Peru, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Colombia's President Álvaro Uribe held a question-and-answer session, giving an overview of his country's economic progress and improved public safety. He also discussed constitutional changes underway that could allow the possibility of a third term.
AS/COA honored Chilean President Michelle Bachelet with the Americas Society's Gold Insigne for Chile's economic and social achievements under her watch. “Chile is in a position to become a developed economy over the course of one generation and it is determined to do so," said the president during remarks.
