Overview

Mercado Global and the Young Professionals of the Americas join forces for an evening that weaves sustainability into business strategy and product design, with an industry panel discussion, climate- and socially-conscious fashion and design, and sustainably sourced snacks.

The recent COVID shock has highlighted the fragility of unsustainable supply chains globally, accelerating a pivotal transformation within the fashion industry as consumers and investors alike demand more from companies on the environmental and social front. Consumers have a plethora of fashion brands to choose from these days which translates to increased buying power and begs the question: What sets brands apart? This panel brings together sustainability experts and industry leaders for an honest assessment of shifting consumer and supplier dynamics as brands are forced to adapt to the ever-changing and highly demanding ESG landscape.

Mercado Global and YPA members get in free. Email ypany@as-coa.org to register.

Tickets for non-members can be purchased for $15 here.

Mercado Global Products: Mercado Global’s Upcycled Denim collection was consciously created with the planet in mind. Handcrafted by women artisans in rural Guatemala, this collection utilizes high-quality deadstock denim donated by Levi Strauss & Co, paired together with classic Mercado Global handwoven fabrics. Supporting our goal to reduce waste levels and lower our carbon footprint, this summer-inspired collection gives new life to discarded materials and saves thousands of yards of fabric from the landfill, all while continuing to provide fair income opportunities to our partner artisans.

Blue Cove: Stephanie Fels is the founder of Blue Cove Preserves. She grew up in a multicultural household with a French father and an Ecuadorian mother. In her childhood, she lived in France with her family, where, similarly to the rest of southern Europe, tinned fish is a culinary delicacy celebrated in the food culture. Her mission is to develop this craft in North America and put delicious tins of seafood preserves in kitchen pantries. Not only are these delectable tins high in nutritional value with Omega 3 fatty acids, protein and vitamins; they also make an elegant appetizer food or a compliment to a great dish. Blue Cove partners with suppliers that honor responsible fishing practices on US shores rather than importing from across the world. Our recipes were created with locally sourced premium condiments, care and love.

Lunar: Drawing from childhood memories and the flavors of our parents' cooking, we started brewing out of our apartments in NYC. 100+ recipes and many trips to Asia later, we finally created a recipe that perfectly blended the Asian flavors we love with the modern hard seltzer in a delicious, harmonious way. Now ready to be part of your family dinners and nights out, we're eager to share with you this one-of-a-kind piece of Asian Americana (in a can).

Parch: In developing Parch™, we studied ancient beverages, rituals and botanical infusions across Mexico and the Southwestern US, drawing inspiration from traditional plant-based beverages enjoyed as alternatives to alcohol. Our distinctive adult beverages are inspired by the Sonoran Desert and the lush biodiversity it keeps. Each sip offers complex flavors from unique pairings of desert ingredients, based on the ethos that “what grows together, goes together." Our bespoke blend of active adaptogens were chosen by our naturopathic doctor to work symbiotically with your body’s natural functions. Each can contains 285mg of our custom blend of Ashwagandha, L-Theanine, American Ginseng & GABA. We call this ‘The Parch Effect’. To ensure greatest efficacy, all our adaptogens are sustainably-sourced and GRAS-certified by the FDA.

Popadelics: Popadelics Crunchy Mushroom Chips are shiitake mushrooms reimagined for the modern superfood snacker that bursts with flavor and packs an addictive crunch! Popadelics is currently available in three mouth-watering, culinary-inspired flavors—Trippin’ Truffle Parm, Twisted Thai Chili, and Rad Rosemary + Salt—and are vegan, gluten-free, OU kosher certified, and Non-GMO Project verified. A portion of all sales also supports the Fun-Gal Snacks Foundation, which supports health and wellness causes.

RGNY: We are a family of winemakers with a deep regard for our heritage. Our Mexican roots bring a unique perspective to our business. We value our family’s tradition of wine-making and aim to foster the Rivero Gonzalez legacy as we enter this new chapter. We believe that we can grow without affecting anything or anyone. Being sustainable means that we are committed to the development of products with low ecological impact. It is our duty to contribute to the economic development of the region where we participate. We believe we are only as strong as our community, and we work with our neighbors to promote the region - wherever it may be.

This is Latin America: This is Latin America is a commercial platform that connects the amazing Latin American culture with the rest of the planet. To achieve this, our commercial strategy consists of selecting those products that reflect the tradition, folklore and people of Latin America always ensuring to deliver to our customers the highest quality in every piece they get. This is Latin America celebrates diversity through an open trade platform, we look to support sustainability and quality of vibrant projects that compete in a huge global market, and to preserve artisanal and millenary techniques that give life to many of these products. We are going to tell the world the stories of the hands that work every day to make this a reality. We are proud of our artisans and their techniques. We are determined to share the Latin American spirit, culture, and folklore with all of humanity. We want to show you Latin America

Tony's Chocolonely: We have been fighting for a slavery-free chocolate industry for the last 13 years, and many have supported us, encouraged us, challenged us and fed us. We are aware of the challenges of trying to change the cocoa industry, but we will continue until our mission has been achieved.

Yolélé: Yolélé was founded by Pierre Thiam, a renowned Senegalese chef, cookbook author, global ambassador for African cuisine and culture, and longtime advocate for sustainability and biodiversity. Pierre wanted to bring his native West African culinary roots to a broader audience with fonio: a tiny, quick-cooking, nutritious, gluten-free grain that grows in West Africa and cooks similarly to couscous. This ancient grain is grown exclusively by smallholder family farmers—mainly women—across the Sahel Region in West Africa.
