Overview
Please join us for a conference call with Nelson Bocaranda S., a Venezuelan journalist with more than 40 years of experience in television, radio broadcasting, and investigative journalism. Bocaranda will discuss the current situation of the media and freedom of expression in Venezuela, following the administrative and editorial changes in two of the country’s main opposition media outlets: Globovision and Cadena Capriles. The call will look at the impact of these changes on freedom of expression in Venezuela and the integrity of journalism, as well as analyze their potential repercussions on public debate and access to independent news and information.
Bocaranda is best known for revealing some of the closely guarded secrets around late President Hugo Chávez’s cancer through his Twitter account @NelsonBocaranda. He is also the co-founder and director of the online news site Runrun.es, and hosts various informative radio shows in Venezuela. He is also a columnist for the Venezuelan newspaper El Universal.
