Overview

Council of the Americas will hold a conversation with leading Venezuelan democracy activists Carlos Vecchio of Voluntad Popular and Julio Henriquez of Foro Penal in the wake of the July 30 constituent assembly vote. Nicolás Maduro called the election in order to replace the current legislature with a new parliamentary body that is to rewrite the country's Constitution.

Vecchio and Henriquez have been deeply involved in helping to organize civil society to promote democratic governance in Venezuela. They will discuss the Constituyente, as it's known in Venezuela, its implications, and what comes next.
