More about the work

Rosario Zorraquín works with language and how it transits across physical, rational, and affective memories. Inspired by natural metamorphoses while investigating the transgressive potential of the formless, Zorraquín has developed rituals of exchange by which she methodologically officiates intimacy between herself and others. The sessions take place with the participant’s haptic reading of Glosario, a non-codified, sensory language created by Zorraquín that has guided her practice during these past few years. It serves as a means to dislocate the rational organization of language and memory.

The performance will show a part of the process of the reading of the Glosario. In this case, for the Performance Series at Americas Society, Zorraquín has invited Jade Manns, a dancer, as a participant to articulate this experience through choreographed movement.

About the Artist

Rosario Zorraquín (b. 1984, Buenos Aires, Argentina) studied at the Universidad Nacional de Arte. She was a Beca Kuitca scholar at the Universidad Torcuato di Tella and participated in residencies at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in Alberta, Canada; FAAP (Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado) in São Paulo, Brazil; and PAF (Performing Arts Forum) in St. Erme, France. Through an in-depth investigation involving experiments around language and the practice of recording human experience, Zorraquín seeks new spaces and synchronous worlds through her paintings and installations. Inspired by shamanism, magic, and psychoanalysis, the artist uses a self-made system of symbols to conduct rituals that verbalize the unvoiced thoughts of friends and strangers. Creating dialogues that become the inner narrat
