About the Artist

Since 1976, the New York New Music Ensemble (NYNME) has been on a mission to push the boundaries of contemporary chamber music. The ensemble has commissioned, performed, and recorded works by some of the most groundbreaking composers of its time, often before the world knew their names. Its concerts have been thrilling, unexpected, and sometimes controversial—but always unforgettable.

From major festivals, including Ravinia, Santa Fe, June in Buffalo, Pacific Rim, and the Thailand International Composers Festival, to residencies at leading universities, the ensemble has introduced new sounds to new audiences. Its discography spans more than 20 recordings, and it has commissioned over 120 works, each expanding the language of contemporary music.

But NYNME goes beyond simply playing the notes.

The ensemble brings music to life through theatrical collaborations, interactive technologies, and fearless performances that make even the most intricate compositions feel vibrant and immediate. Whether in a concert hall, a classroom, or an experimental space, NYNME believes in making music that connects, challenges, and excites.

NYNME's mission is threefold: first, to present concerts that are as entertaining as they are thought-provoking; second, to support composers in the United States and beyond through the commissioning, performance, and recording of their works; and third, to cultivate new audiences for serious chamber music, demonstrating that “new” does not have to mean “intimidating.”
