Democracy Dialogues: A Conversation with John Feeley
The first executive director of the OAS’ new Center for Media Integrity of the Americas spoke on the importance of press freedom in democracies.
Overview
Attacks against the press in Mexico have increased by 85 percent since President Andrés Manuel López Obrador took office. According to a recent report, it is the most deadly period for journalists since records began to be kept.
Please join the host of Democracy Dialogues Eric Farnsworth for a one-on-one interview on press freedom and other democratic challenges with John Feeley, former U.S. ambassador to Panama and the first executive director of the Organization of American States' Center for Media Integrity of the Americas. Launched only a few weeks ago, the Center aims to promote and support the practice of independent, non-interest affiliated journalism and social media production in the Americas.
#DemocracyDialogues is a series of conversations we need to be having now on the state of democracy in the Americas. Hosted by Eric Farnsworth, these one-on-one interviews with leading democracy practitioners explore the most difficult issues of regional democratic governance with an eye toward pragmatic, deeply-considered solutions.
