Conflict Resolution in Guatemala Luncheon
AS/COA will host a lunch discussion with a delegation from Guatemala on conflict resolution and community relations.
Overview
This event is complimentary for all registrants. Prior registration is required.
We are pleased to invite you to a lunch discussion with a delegation from the Ancestral Mayan Authorities of Guatemala on conflict resolution and community relations. In a context of rising concern over violence and the deterioration of the democratic rule of law in Guatemala, these Mayan authorities are advocating the use of centuries-old traditions to resolve conflict and establish social peace. The delegation will be led by Alberto Marroquin, the indigenous mayor of Pocomam, and Alberto Chumil, indigenous leader from Solola. We hope you can join us for what will be a lively discussion.
Note: Speakers will speak in their indigenous languages and Spanish translators will offer simultaneous translation.
Speakers:
- Alberto Chumil, indigenous leader from Solola
- Alberto Marroquin, indigenous mayor of Pocomam
- Christopher Sabatini, Editor-in-Chief, Americas Quarterly and Senior Director of Policy, Americas Society/Council of the Americas (Moderator)
