In 2008, AS/COA launched new initiatives bringing together leaders of the public and private sectors, hosting approximately 170 programs in New York, Washington DC, Miami, and Latin America. In 2007, AS/COA hosted more Latin American Cities Conferences than ever before. Conferences and related private and working group events took place in Mexico, El Salvador, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay, Peru, and Bolivia.

AS/COA hosted leaders from the Americas during the month of the UN General Assembly, including presidents of Bolivia; Chile; Colombia; Costa Rica; Dominican Republic; El Salvador; Guatemala; Honduras; Ecuador; and the leading Argentinean presidential candidate.
