Ilan Goldfajn, elected president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) last Sunday, has a low public profile but a reputation for competence. He has held positions in the public and private sectors, led Brazil’s Central Bank, and was director of the International Monetary Fund’s Western Hemisphere Department.
