Xinhua News: Survey on Middle Class Attitudes to Democracy in Latin America

Scholars and academics gathered at a panel presentation organized by AS/COA to discuss public and middle class attitudes to democracy in Latin America. The discussion was based on a recently released survey conducted by the Latin America Public Opinion Project at Vanderbilt University. The survey suggests the economy has boomed in the region during the past decade along with the rise of a self-defined middle class. Though the results contrast with the conventional thoughts that a robust middle class can strengthen democracy.
