The Potential of the Venezuela-U.S. Relationship

President Hugo Chávez's return to Venezuela has shed light on the relationship between the Andean country and the United States. AS/COA's Eric Farnsworth speaks to CCTV about the potential prospects to improve the U.S.-Venezuela relationship. "It's a difficult time in Venezuela right now. The last thing Venezuela wants is a deteriorating situation with the U.S.," Farnsworth said. "For a long time, Venezuela and the U.S. had a good economic relationship, but politics is an intruder, investment has been scared away, both because of the lack of rule of law and increasing crime rate [in addition to] government intervention in the private sector. These circumstances can change, but in the current environment that's asking for a lot," Farnsworth explained.
