Inside Amazonia Açu: A Conversation with Americas Society's Aimé Iglesias Lukin

Our art director and chief curator spoke with AS/COA Vice President Brian Winter about the current exhibition, closing on April 18.

"Something that is very unique about this exhibition, is that it offers the possibility to see a region as a whole, to understand the connections and differences of a very large region that composes the Amazonia," says Aimé Iglesias Lukin, director and chief curator of Art at Americas Society, about our current exhibition dedicated to the culturally rich and expansive territory in South America.

Amazonia Açu, on view through April 18, brings together artworks that provides a kaleidoscopic overview of the aesthetic, cultural, and material diversity found in the Amazon region. It reflects how the artists engage with a variety of topical questions, including methods of artistic production, modes of knowledge sharing, community engagement, land rights politics, cultural heritage, and spirituality, and how they relate to our current moment.

In this conversation with AS/COA Vice President of Policy Brian Winter, Iglesias Lukin speaks about the vision behind the show, the artwork that grabbed her attention, and a curatorial process that brought nine curators from nine different countries in the Amazon.

Be sure to visit 680 Park Avenue by April 18, 2026, to see the exhibition.
