CCTV: Farnsworth on What Lies Ahead for Latin America in 2014

COA's Vice President Eric Farnsworth spoke to CCTV's Biz Asia America about the region's economic performance in 2013 and what’s in store for the coming year. Farnsworth noted that Latin American growth was positive, though it fell short of expectations. In part, this has to do with a slowdown in China, the top trade partner of some Latin American economies, he explained. It also has to do with structural issues and lack of infrastructure, he added. Farnsworth also commented on Mexico’s reforms, noting that they have yet to be implemented, and time will tell if the reforms impact growth. Citing food shortages and continuing economic woes, “there is a real concern about Venezuela in 2014,” he said. Brazil will also be a country to watch this year, with presidential elections and the potential for more protests, he concluded.
