“There is no reason not to be on good terms with the United States. There is no reason not to be on good terms with China, and hopefully both can coexist and do business in that environment,” responded James A. Fok when asked about how Latin American nations can navigate maintaining relationships with both nations. Fok, the author of Financial Cold War: A View of US-China Relations from the Financial Markets, discussed the current landscape of global sanctions, as well as the perception of China in the Western Hemisphere during the event. In his book, Fok expounds on the danger of upholding the Cold War narrative portrayed in news outlets regarding U.S.-China relations.
