Consul General of Brazil in New York

Ambassador Maria Nazareth Farani Azevêdo is the consul general of Brazil in New York. From 2008 to 2013, and again from 2017 to 2021, she was the ambassador and permanent representative of Brazil to the United Nations in Geneva. Previously, Ambassador Farani Azevêdo was posted to the Embassy of Brazil in Washington DC., the Mission of Brazil to the Latin American Integration Association, in Montevideo, Uruguay, and the Mission of Brazil to the United Nations in Geneva, as a trade and environment negotiator. Prior to that, in Brazil, she held positions in trade promotion, regional integration, trade negotiations, and political affairs. In 2005, Ambassador Farani Azevêdo became the first woman diplomat to hold the position of chief of staff at the Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil. She authored the book The World Trade Organization and the Agricultural Reform. Ambassador Farani Azevêdo is a member of the Advisory Committee of the Brazil Foundation in New York.
