Francisco Ruiz-Tagle
Francisco Ruiz-Tagle has served as CEO of CMPC since 2018, one of the leading companies in the pulp, paper, and wood products industry, with over 105 years of history. Throughout his more than three-decade career at the company, he has played an important role in its expansion, diversification, and internationalization process. He has held leadership positions across the company’s pulp, forestry, packaging, and tissue businesses. Notably, he served as CEO of the Paper Products Division in Chile, as well as Papelera del Plata, CMPC's subsidiary leader in tissue products in Argentina.
Francisco has firmly contributed to solidify the company’s presence in Latin America and the United States, which now has operations in 9 countries. From 2011 to 2018, he led the Company's Forestry and Pulp divisions, where he promoted and led the sustainable forest management certification process. This was a key milestone for the production and marketing of wood, pulp, and paper products in global markets, and it established the foundation for the company's commitment to sustainability, a fundamental pillar of its current strategy. Under Francisco’s leadership, CMPC has established a robust climate action strategy including a comprehensive set of science-based CO2 emission reduction goals and a net-zero target by 2040. His tenure has seen the implementation of the company's 2030 strategy where innovation plays a key role, including the construction of a new greenfield pulp project called Natureza in Brazil, still under analysis.
He has also overseen CMPC’s pioneer role in the green financing space, a journey that has awarded the company several international recognitions. Francisco was also recognized with the Bravo Award 2023 as the CEO of the year by the Council of the Americas for his contribution in sustainability.
He is vice chair of the Board of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) since 2022 and also sits on the board of the Corporate Leaders Group for Climate Change (CLG-Chile). He is also a member of the board of the Chilean Institute of Rational Business Administration (ICARE), and serves as a council member of the Federation of Chilean Industry (SOFOFA).
Francisco earned an economics degree at the University of Chile and holds an MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles. He is married, has five children, and enjoys hiking in his free time.
