Eugene Zapata-Garesché

Managing Director for Latin America, 100 Resilient Cities, The Rockefeller Foundation

Eugene Zapata-Garesché is the managing director for Latin America at 100 Resilient Cities (100RC). He oversees the nonprofit’s work with cities throughout the region, helping to build the capacities of local governments and develop international networks of urban cooperation. Prior to joining 100RC, Zapata-Garesché served as international advisor to the mayor of Mexico City. He also served as Latin America’s regional director of the World Fund for City Development and held the title of North American Secretary of METROPOLIS, an association of the world’s major cities. Zapata-Garesché has written and spoken frequently on the international affairs of cities and their governments, authoring several books and articles in major publications. He was named one of the 30 Future Leaders of Latin America by Latin American Development Bank (CAF) and recognized as a Knight of the National Order of Merit by the French Republic for his work on international relations. Zapata-Garesché holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations from the National Autonomous University of Mexico and two master’s degrees: one in European integration from the London School of Economics and another in international development and cooperation from La Sorbonne.

Supervisa el trabajo del ONG con ciudades a través de la región, apoyando el crecimiento de las capacidades de gobiernos locales y desarrollando redes internacionales de cooperación urbana. Antes de unirse con 100RC, Sr. Zapata-Garesché sirvió como asesor internacional del alcalde del Distrito Federal, México. También sirvió director regional del World Fund for City Development y tuvo el título de ministro norteamericano de METROPOLIS, una asociación de las ciudades importantes del mundo. Sr. Zapata-Garesché ha escrito y hablado frecuentemente sobre los asuntos internacionales de las ciudades, publicando varios libros y artículos en revistas principales. Fue nombrado uno de los 30 Future Leaders of Latin America por el Banco de Desarrollo de América Latina (CAF) y reconocido como caballero del Orden Nacional de Mérito de la Republica de Francia por su trabajo en relaciones internacionales. Sr. Zapata-Garesché tiene un bachillerato en relaciones internacionales de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México y dos maestrias: una en integración europea del London School of Economics y otra en desarrollo internacional de La Sorbonne.
